Came across a great map the other day and had fun looking and laughing and thinking about it.
It is from a Tumblr site Maps on the Web, and full sized can be viewed here: http://mapsontheweb.tumblr.com/post/51078776659/the-corporate-states-of-america-made-by-steve#permalink-notes
At first glance, it is pretty funny. You can imagine the entire state of Kansas, lost in an endless field of grain with their Garmins. Starbucks, Nike, and Apple sum up the West Coast quite well I think, and beer is always popular. Who knew Alabama went for Saks in such a big way, and then we find AOL, really? Are they still in business?
The best of all has to be Hooters though. America’s appendage goes for Hooters. Brilliant.
A vague memory of an old cartoon came to mind, which I present without comment.
Thing is though, like so many things on the web, once you try to check into this map, there’s not a lot of information on it.
At first blush I automatically assumed that it was a representation of what people in the states liked, but of course there is nothing at all that says that.
In fact, I haven’t really been able to find out anything about the methodology used, and for all I know, it was dreamed up by a couple college kids at a bar one night.
Ah well, it’s here for good now.
